It’s World Vegetarian Day! Although I am not a vegetarian, I try to get as many of them into my day as possible. This curry is filled with fibre and protein and is (of course) vegetarian. It’s great for making in large batches and freezing and has been a hit when having friends over (not just the vegetarians). Thanks Nani for teaching me how to make this!

  • It's worth making a big batch and freezing this curry because pr...

My friend Kelly likes back muscles, I like these mussels. Don't get me wrong, a man with a good strong back is great, but with these you get to pick all the features. No bad personality, boring chat or lack of chemistry but rather your desired level of spice in a white wine cream sauce.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Difficulty: Easy

Serves 2

2 pounds of fresh, live mussels (typically y...

The most important part of pizza is the sauce. So in my attempt to get a Cooking with Friends Pizza Edition going, I made some dough (which was decent) but I made some sauce, which was better than I expected. So then I made it a few more times (it's easy!) to make sure it was consistently as good as I had hoped. Here it is! I hope you love it as much as I do and put it on all the pizzas.

For me, cooking is a whole ritualistic thing. It involves certain music (often accompanied by dancing in the kitchen) and usually does not have a time restriction. If given the chance, I will turn a 10-minute meal into a 30-minute meal because I just want to be doing this singing, dancing, ritual thing a little longer. That being said, when push comes to shove (and I have no leftovers in the fridge), I appreciate things that c...

Hello Fall! Those of you who know me, know that September is the real new year in my life. Nothing like the crisp air and back-to-school vibes to get me excited to be productive. Making these wontons was the ultimate batch cook - we made over 200! Not only was it was it an extra productive evening, it felt more like an edible craft night when doing it with a few friends. And did I mention everyone got a little gift bag of MORE...

So, I got a BBQ finally and to kick things off I decided to try making some fish skewers. It wasn't until after I paid for the halibut (cha-ching!) that I really felt pressure for it to be a success. Any firm white fish will work, I was nervous because I was feeding others and the halibut looked the most firm and least likely to fall of my skewers. Recipe inspo from both the Looney Spoons cookbook, my aunt's fish skewers and c...

Shakshuka is a dish best enjoyed at breakfast. Or lunch. Or dinner. The ingredients are simple and my guess is you already have most of them. It is the perfect solution to the classic "I have nothing at home to eat" conundrum that usually precedes takeout. Packed with tomato, bell peppers and eggs, your body (and palate) will thank you.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 20-25 minutes

Difficulty: Easy

Serves 2-4 (makes 4 eggs)

Here are some of the reasons I have been making this a lot lately:

  1. Its cold outside and this is warm.

  2. It is a perfect thing to cook for my vegetarian friends.

  3. It has your vegetables, starch and protein all in one pot.

  4. Fibre, fibre, fibre (to keep you full longer)

  5. The first few times I made it, I ate it before I took any photos (whoops!)

The holidays are here (basically), which gets me excited for lots of of cozy dinners at home with friends and family. But sometimes the desire to have people over is outweighed by the stress of what to make and the preparation of "entertaining". Beef short ribs are a great way to go when the stress starts to build because on their own they are already pretty tasty. This dish is richer than others I have posted, but in the end...

Hello Fall! I am loving the fact we are still getting amazing weather, but the evenings are definitely starting to feel more crisp (which also gets me excited). This biriyani recipe is a quick fix for days where you want something a bit more exciting for dinner. Biriyani tends to be a celebratory meal in Indian households, but when its this easy (and still healthy) I can't resist celebrating, even if the celebration is that it...
