Holiday Gift Guide 2018: Foodie Edition

Hi Friends! You've heard me talk about my organizational skills before and usually I would give myself an A or A+ except when it comes to holiday shopping. This post is for those of you who are like me and need the pressure of time to get anything done. This is essentially my wish list, but it might be fitting for your foodie friends too. The added bonus is you can get most of these things last minute - thanks Amazon Prime!

Kale Destemmer

Price: $5

Available at: Amazon

This is a great little stocking stuffer! I got one last year and love it. Makes prepping kale and all the herbs so easy.

Do What Feels Good by Hannah Bronfman

Price: $32

Available at: Amazon

You might be wondering why this book isn't in the book section below. Yes, it is a book, but it is more than just (healthy) recipes. Hannah Bronfman (fitness advocate, entrepreneur, influencer) writes about her favourite recipes and rituals for self-care. This book doesn't come out until January (so you can let them know it's on the way).

Cheese Vault

Price: $40

Available at: Capabunga (or if you are in the USA, more colours at Food52)

This is perfect for the cheese lovers and dinner party hosts in your life. The thought is that it allows cheese to breathe rather than trapping it in its own moisture in plastic (which isn't the best for cheese). Plus it comes in pretty colours to make any fridge look more beautiful and organized.

Le Creuset (Anything)

Price: Variable

Available at: Le Creuset, The Bay, William Sonoma, Crate & Barrel

Honestly, one of the best gifts I have received was my French Oven. I can make just about anything in it. It can go from stovetop to oven, make soups, stews and braise meats (and it also is the perfect length for spaghetti so I no longer have to pull out the biggest pot I own for a small task). Other things I love at Le Creuset are the mugs and the butter crock.

The MEATER Thermometer

Price: $119

Available at: Amazon

Say goodbye to the days of manually checking the temperature with this wireless thermometer. The MEATER connects its probe (left inside the meat) to an app on your phone so that you don't have to keep getting up (or going outside in the snow) to get that perfect cook.

Portrait Cookie Cutters

Prices from $40

Available at: Etsy (some options include this for one or this for a family)

This is just too funny to me! They're customized from photos you submit.

Nordic Ware Bundt Pan

Prices from $37

Available at: Amazon

Any baker would love to get one of these, they are all just so beautiful! But if I had to pick some of my favourites they would include this rose, the quartet pan, this flower and these pine trees.

Macaron 101 Baking Class @ Ollia

Price: $100

More information here.

Learn how to make French macarons with a takeaway of about 30 macarons (that you make yourself)!

RBT Table Wine Opener

Price: $150+

Available at: West Elm and William Sonoma

A standing wine opener that uses an easy lever mechanism to open all the wine with less fuss. Plus it looks nice. Wanting something smaller that doesn't take up counter space? All the other RBT wine accessories are beautiful, including their electric corkscrew.

Wine Decanter with Glasses

Price: $75

Available At: Crate and Barrel

So many beautiful decanters out there. I particularly love how fun this one is, and it doubles as an old-fashioned set as well. Some other reasonably priced decanters I love include this classic, this snake, or this one.

If you want to splurge (or just ogle) check out this human heart (the doctor in me loves this), the escargot, this one or any other Riedel decanter here.

Curated Cases Wine Subscription @ Metrovino

Price: Variable

Available here.

A gift that gives all year (the best kind of gift). To get started, email Marli (at the above link) who will be thrilled to help customize the perfect gift based on your taste, budget and number of bottles you would like. They also offer various themed wine tastings you can do year round.

Cocktail Club @ Vine Arts

Price: $75

Available here.

A monthly delivery of all the ingredients needed to make a new cocktail for those who might want to spice up their bar at home. They also do a wine club and tastings as well.

Harry Potter Aprons

Price: $20

Available at: William Sonoma

Yes, this is a Gryffindor apron (other houses available if you're more of a Slytherin). William Sonoma also has matching spatulas (so cute)!

Other Aprons

Price: $17

Available at: Pottery Barn Kids

I needed to give this apron its own section because it was too cute! Perfect for the little sous-chefs in your life.

Zoku Popsicle Moulds

Price: $27

Available at: Amazon

I find some moulds frustrating as they often don't release the popsicle easily enough. I have a Zoku brand mould, which has a silicone lining that you can pull and manipulate off the popsicle to make life easier (because the worst thing is when the stick comes out but the popsicle is stuck inside).

Ice Cream Maker

Price: $60 to $149

Available at: Amazon (there is also this kind)

This also doubles as a gift for you. Perfect for kids wanting to spend more time in the kitchen. There are lots of easy ice cream recipe books out there and the best way to find what you want is by flipping through (I always find great kids cook books at Home Sense). But, if you're in a bind you can try this book.

Forest Feast for Kids by Erin Gleeson

Price: $24

Available at: Amazon

For those of you who haven't picked up one of Erin Gleeson's books that is something you need to do STAT. Her books are works of art. They are filled with the most beautiful photos of her vegetarian dishes and are very easy to follow.

Dining In: Highly Cookable Recipes by Alison Roman

Price: $30

Available at: Amazon

This came out a little over a year ago, and if you missed getting or gifting it last year you need to do that now. It's a favourite book on my shelf. The recipes are easy to make, perfect for weeknights (but look fancy enough for entertaining) without requiring the rare and hard-to-find ingredients. A must have!

All About Cake by Christina Tosi

Price: $32

Available at: Amazon

Christina Tosi's newest book that is all about cake (in case that wasn't apparent). I don't have it but I have taken a peak and if it is anything like her other books, it's something new and exciting your baker friends should have on their shelf.

Ottolenghi Simple: A Cookbook by Yotam Ottolenghi

Price: $24

Available at: Amazon

I am a huge fan of all things Ottolenghi. This is his new book that is filled with Middle Eastern recipes that don't require as many exotic (hard-to-find) ingredients as his other books. Plus the recipes truly are SIMPLE. Also, did I mention the sample menus at the back of the book? I'M OBSESSED.

Ratio: The Simple Codes Behind the Craft of Everyday Cooking by Michael Ruhlman

Price: $14

Available at: Amazon

This is one of the more frequented books on my shelf. It's perfect for those who like to get a little creative as it provides ratios to make the perfect cakes, muffins, sauces, reductions etc. while letting you get creative with the flavours.

Bon Appétit Subscription

Price: $28 for 1 year (or $54 for 2)

Available at: bonappetit.com

If I have any admirers out there who want to get me a present, please get me this. Kidding! Kind of. This gift speaks for itself. Always filled with new recipes, kitchen tools and experiences, it is what every cook would want. Plus they get the gift of something new in the mail every month (and they will thank you and think of you each time).

NYT Cooking Subscription

Price: $40 USD/year

Available here.

Another thing I (along with your foodie friends) want. New recipes daily crafted by various amazing individuals (such as Alison Roman, above).
